Sustaining our Planet & Community
Blog Post By Linzi Gay
Think like a tree, act like a forest. As we kick off a new year, the team at Clif Family is considering how we can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable planet by
Thinking Like a Tree and how we can encourage and support our community to
Act Like a Forest. Trees run on renewable energy, recycle all waste and sustain and improve the places they grow.

At Clif Family, we are dedicated to making a positive environmental impact through sustainable practices in farming and production. Our team believes in the power of thinking like a tree and acting like a forest. Just as trees run on renewable energy, recycle waste, and improve the places they grow, we strive to contribute to a healthier and more sustainable planet.
Key Areas of Sustainability in Farming and Production
We focus on four key areas of sustainability across our business:
- Organic Food and Farming
- Sustainable Production
- Zero Waste Practices
- Conserving and Restoring our Natural Resources
By setting goals in each of these areas and tracking our progress, we aim to share our successes, challenges, and lessons learned. Together, we can contribute to a more sustainable world.
Recognized for Our Sustainable Practices
We’re proud to have been recognized for our efforts, including receiving the
California Green Medal Award for Community in 2020. This award highlighted our innovative practices that support our employees, neighbors, and communities. We continue to build on this foundation, striving to create a greater impact each year.
Achieving B Corp Certification: A Milestone in Our Sustainability Journey
In 2023, we achieved
B Corp certification, a prestigious recognition that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. B Corps are held to the highest standards of social and environmental impact, ensuring that we meet rigorous criteria for accountability, transparency, and sustainability. This achievement reflects our mission to use our business as a force for good, not just in the products we create but in how we operate, treat our employees, and contribute to our community.
Enhancing Our Environmental Certifications
As part of our ongoing sustainability journey, we are focused on enhancing our other certifications like
Napa Green, which focuses on climate action, regenerative farming, and social equity, and
CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers), which ensures that our farming practices meet the highest organic standards.
We're also working toward other goals such as reducing our carbon emissions, with a target to achieve net zero emissions by 2030. We have made a commitment with
SME Climate Hub to position ourselves as a small business that can help deliver on larger climate goals.
In recent years, we’ve made great progress in updating our sustainable packaging, aligning with our eco-conscious values. Learn more about our sustainable wine packaging initiatives in our
Sustainable Wine Packaging blog.
Supporting Our Community Through Service and Engagement
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our environmental efforts and into our community. Through our Community Service Program, we provide each employee with 16 hours of paid community service time annually, empowering our team to give back to causes they are passionate about. Our goal is to collectively contribute 1,250 community service hours each year, strengthening our bond with the local community and supporting meaningful initiatives.
Sip & Supports: Giving Back to Local Nonprofits
Additionally, we host monthly Sip & Supports at the
Clif Family Tasting Room and
Bruschetteria Food Truck. During these events, we donate 20% of the day's food and wine sales to a different local nonprofit organization each month. This initiative allows us to further support causes that make a difference in our community while offering a unique and enjoyable experience for our guests.
We are excited to continue prioritizing sustainability and making meaningful contributions toward a healthier planet.
