From Finish Line to Wine: Your Napa Valley Marathon Weekend Guide

You've signed up for the Napa Valley Marathon (or Half or 5k) – congratulations! Whether you're a seasoned visitor or a first-timer, this Napa Valley Marathon weekend guide will help you plan the perfect marathon experience.

Pre-Race Prep

Preparing for race day is essential, so here are some tips to get you ready:
  • Carb Up: To fuel your run, consider a hearty meal at one of these Napa restaurants. For instance, Pizzeria Tra Vigne offers excellent pasta dishes and fresh salads. Similarly, Oxbow Public Market is a bustling marketplace with many food vendors, making it perfect for a casual pop-in. Don’t forget to check out Oxbow Cheese + Wine Merchant while you’re there. On the other hand, if you’re seeking a dynamic atmosphere, Scala Osteria & Bar delivers Southern Italian cuisine and lively vibes.
  • Gentle Exploration: Before race day, stretch your legs or enjoy a shake-out run. You can explore downtown Napa, or, for even more scenic views, try the Calistoga to St. Helena stretch of the Napa Valley Vine Trail.
  • Get Buzzed: If you need caffeine, our favorite spots are Naysayer's Coffee and Deuce’s Market. Both offer great coffee to get you energized!

Exploring Wine Country

After crossing the finish line, it’s time to celebrate and relax. Here’s how you can make the most of your post-race time in Napa Valley:
  • Post-Race Party: Don’t miss the after-party at Clif Family Winery and Farm in downtown St. Helena. Not only will you enjoy wine tasting from our organically grown, small-production wines, but you’ll also dance to a live DJ, enter to win door prizes, and savor delicious eats from our farm-to-table Bruschetteria Food Truck. Plus, check your virtual goodie bag for a coupon for a complimentary appetizer. Yes, we are that Clif! Founders Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, who co-founded Clif Bar, are the visionaries behind our Napa Valley experience.
  • Beyond Wine: Napa Valley offers much more than just wine. For example, you can ride the Napa Valley Wine Train for a scenic and unique experience. Alternatively, immerse yourself in art at the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art, which features a captivating collection of contemporary works.
  • Rest and Recover: Giving your body the rest it deserves is crucial after a race. For instance, you can relax at your hotel, take a gentle walk, or indulge in a soothing massage at one of Napa’s renowned spas like Dr. Wilkinson’s or Indian Springs Resort

Planning Your Trip

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable marathon weekend, consider these tips:
  • Book Accommodations Early: Because the Napa Valley Marathon is such a popular event, it’s essential to secure your lodging, dining reservations, winery visits, or spa treatments in advance. This is especially important if you’re traveling in a group of six or more.
  • Consider Transportation: Since Napa Valley is spread out, having a car is highly recommended. For added convenience, consider hiring a driver – some services even drive your rental car for you. Although ride-sharing services are available, they are quite limited in the valley.
  • Check the Weather: March weather in Napa Valley can be unpredictable. Therefore, pack layers to prepare for both sunshine and rain. Be sure to bring a hoodie, vest, umbrella, and even short sleeves and shorts, just in case.
Cheers, and happy running! Don’t forget to visit #TeamClifFamily at the marathon expo, too. For a stress-free trip, let this Napa Valley Marathon weekend guide inspire your plans.
