The vines sit on a steep slope at 1,785 feet on the north side of Howell Mountain on Ink Grade Road — named for the croquet court on the property — in Aiken loam, a rich red clay that drains slowly and makes the vines work. Aged for 20 months in 85% new French oak, with the Winemaker Laura Barrett pulling the best barrels for this single-vineyard bottling. Pairs with Steak Frites and Fettucine Alfredo.
