Patty Melt

Patty Melt

Recipe by the Clif Family Culinary Team

Yield: 4 Patty Melts

INGREDIENTS:
24 oz ground beef, formed into 4-6oz patties
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 jar Clif Family Savory Onion Jam
1/4 stick of butter
Cooking oil, as needed
8 slices rye bread
8 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

  • Shape ground beef into 4-6oz balls and press flat to make your patty. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Preheat skillet or griddle until hot, drizzle a little cooking oil on the surface and place patties down, working in batches if necessary. Using a metal spatula, score each patty with a crosshatch grid to prevent shrinking and to help cook more evenly.
  • Flip once browned and cook though on the other side until cooked through.
  • Transfer patties to a paper towel lined plate or rack to drain excess grease.
  • Clean pan.
  • Spread mayo on rye bread and top with Savory Onion Jam on both pieces.
  • Place cooked patty along with 2 slices of cheddar cheese, close sandwich, and fry in the cleaned skillet on medium-low heat with butter, lightly pressing down on the sandwich to ensure even browning. Once golden-brown color is a achieved, flip onto the other side and continue to cook until the bread is browned on both sides and cheese is melted.
  • Serve whole or sliced in half.
