Napa Valley: How to Choose Your Own Adventure—Casual vs. Luxury

Napa Valley is world-famous for its legendary Cabernet Sauvignon, sweeping vineyard views, and Michelin-starred five-course meals. But there is a secret the locals know: Wine Country has a "come as you are" side that is just as vibrant as its high-end prestige.

Last year, we shared our perspective on navigating Napa Valley dress code. Now, we’re building on that conversation with a guide to dressing for the all the experiences The Valley has to offer. Whether you’re planning a relaxed day in flip-flops or getting dressed up for an evening out, Clif Family Winery & Farm is here to help you strike the perfect balance. Consider this your guide to going casual—or fancy—in Napa Valley.

The Casual Guide: Napa Valley "Come as You Are"

Napa has an incredible selection of laid-back spots where you can let your hair down and enjoy the valley’s natural beauty without a formal itinerary.

The Best Burgers for Cabernet Lovers

Nothing pairs better with a bold Napa Cab than a juicy burger. If you're looking for the best casual fare, these are our top picks:

  • Gott’s Roadside: A classic St. Helena (and Napa) staple for an outdoor lunch.
  • The Kitchen Door: Modern comfort food in the heart of downtown Napa.
  • Squeeze Inn: Famous for their "cheese skirt" burgers.
  • The Garden: A hidden gem for a relaxed bite with Napa wines or beer.

What is the Napa Valley Dress Code?

One of the most common questions we get is: "Can I wear jeans in Napa?" The truth is, Napa is very open. You will see people in everything from sundresses and suits to designer denim and clean sneakers. Generally, Napa Casual (nice jeans and a collared shirt or blouse) is welcome almost everywhere.

However, if you are headed to a "Fancy" dinner at a place like Press or Solbar, we recommend double-checking their specific dress code. When in doubt, dark, well-fitted jeans are truly welcome anywhere in the valley—just pair them with a nice pair of boots or loafers and you're set.
