The Story Behind the Wine: Bici - Adventure in a Glass

One day, over a glass of wine, a spark of inspiration ignited between Clif Family Winemaker Laura Barrett and Clif Family Co-Owner Kit Crawford. Laura, known for her love of blending, suggested they explore creating a new red wine. Kit, a passionate traveler with a soft spot for European wines, was immediately intrigued and recalled the stunning wines she enjoyed from the Rhone region of France. She proposed creating a Napa Valley Rhone-style blend. Our Clif Family Bici Rhone-Style Red Wine was born from this collaboration. Inspired by Kit's love of adventure and her travels through Europe, particularly the Dolomites of Italy's Belluno province, the wine's name, "Bici" (Italian for "bike"), pays homage to her passion for cycling. The Bici label features a captivating image of Kit riding on the Passo Giau, capturing the spirit of adventure that fueled the creation of this exceptional blend. The 2022 Bici is a delicious blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Grenache. The Syrah contributes its characteristic meaty and peppery notes, while the Grenache adds a lighter, fruitier element. Aged without new oak, the wine allows the fruit to shine, creating a balanced and approachable profile. When not traveling or on her bike, Kit enjoys cooking simple Mediterranean-inspired dishes at home to pair with a nice glass of Bici. Using fresh, seasonal ingredients, she creates meals that are both nourishing and delicious.
